The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority recently asked the community for nominations of health care professionals that have risen to the challenge of treating pandemic patients. Of all the nominations, Shannon Wojtowicz RN, Ohioans COVID Task Force Nurse, was one of the 5 healthcare heroes selected for the “We’re Plane Thankful” award!

Here’s what Shannon had to say about being chosen. “Thank you for letting me serve our community in such an important way. I feel so humbled and proud!”

We are truly grateful for Shannon, and all the healthcare professionals who have helped our community stay safe and healthy during this global pandemic.

Ohioans Maintain COVID-19 Task Force

Ohioans maintain COVID-19 task force Ohioans Home Health & Hospice created a COVID-19 task force at the beginning of the pandemic to combat the spread of the virus. OHH remains committed to taking precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and patients while the spread of the virus continues to change, and challenges persist.

Receiving quality in-home care methods is of the utmost importance, especially during times of crisis. Our preexisting emergency preparedness plan allowed us to respond to the obstacles created by the pandemic without an interruption in service.

Here are a few ways your OHH nurses are working to keep you safe:

Nurses who work with COVID-19 patients will only work with symptomatic individuals or households.
A separate team will attend non-symptomatic patients to avoid the potential spread of the virus.
OHH staff will employ N95 Envo masks and surgical masks to protect themselves and their patients during their visit.
OHH encourages all patients to wear masks during visits to protect themselves and the staff.
All staff regularly inspect masks for tears or holes and will always keep their noses, mouths, and chins covered.

Our emergency preparedness plan has withstood the test of COVID-19, and we will continue to administer to our patients with our signature dedication and care. The task force will also remain in place while the virus runs its course.

Call OHH at 855.600.0806 or contact us online for more information.

Ohioans Sponsors Run ‘4’ Rory Fundraiser

Ohioans sponsors run '4' Rory fundraiser Ohioans Home Health & Hospice was one of the sponsors of the second annual Run ‘4’ Rory Race and Fun Run on June 8 in Perrysburg’s Woodlands Park.

The benefit for The American Heart Association is a family-friendly event that includes music, a vendor expo, free games and entertainment for children. The day features a 4-mile timed run, followed by a 2-mile walk and kids fun run.

Rory Yoakum is a child born with a congenital heart defect known as pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum, which causes hypoplastic right heart syndrome. Due to one of Rory’s valves never developing, the right side of his heart never grew.

Just four of every 100,000 children are born with this defect, which typically means a child has several open-heart surgeries to create a single ventricle system. Rory has been able to maintain a two-ventricle system after receiving support from organizations such as the American Heart Association. Such innovations allow children like Rory to live a life that was previously never thought possible.

Run ‘4’ Rory is using the money raised in the event to fund new initiatives to support families in northwest Ohio and southwest Michigan that have been impacted by congenital heart disease. Specifically, the funding helps provide for a heart defect support network, education, and infant CPR kits.

The event is a natural philanthropic event for Ohioans, which offers home healthcare services for all ages, including children. We believe that offering care for children in the home promotes family bonding while supporting growth and development. For more information about Ohioans, call us at 855.600.0806 or contact us online.
